ATHENA AOI 3D

Presentation

The ATHENA is an AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) machine that can be used before or after reflow, with high-performance 3D inspection to validate placement and soldering quality.

PEMTRON technology detects and takes account of board buckling to precisely measure the height of components and solder joints. The use of a single camera, 8 projectors (12 as an option) and 3 concentric illuminators avoids shadow effects, even on the most densely populated boards. The detection unit, comprising camera and projectors, moves in XY using linear motors, for greater speed, precision and reliability.

The 3D model generated enables the XYZ dimensions and XY position of components and solder joints to be determined precisely and with good repeatability, as well as reading the markings present on certain components, enabling the following defects to be detected: missing component, offset component, component lifted or on edge, misalignment, reference error, lifted tab, defective solder joint (too weak, excessive, bridge... ), presence of foreign body... based on standard (IPC standard) or customized criteria. The 3D model corresponding to each inspected board can be saved in a database for later viewing in 3D mode.

The Windows 10 control and programming software is 100% developed by Pemtron. It is fast, highly intuitive and extremely user-friendly, enabling the user to create a program in a few tens of minutes, from a coordinate file and a component library - or by learning for components not yet listed in the library. The interactive validation/repair software can also be used to intervene in the inspection program to rapidly optimize coverage and false defect rates. SPC server and client modules enable real-time trend monitoring, a posteriori data analysis, and export in various formats (HTML, Excel, image, etc.).

The AOI PEMTRON ATHENA is available in 3 resolutions, with speeds ranging from 19 to 59 cm² per second. Card formats range from 50 x 50 mm to 510 x 510 mm. Maximum inspection height is 27 mm.

Like all PEMTRON equipment, the AOI ATHENA is able to dialogue and interact with a wide range of Industry 4.0-compatible electronic board production equipment.
