SmartFAB

Presentation

In addition to adopting the modular concept of the NXT, the SmartFAB features a 110 mm Z-stroke and a dual-head configuration. The first picks up the part and places it on the support, while the second can perform a complementary function, such as applying a product of any kind. A single SmartFAB machine is thus capable of performing complex operations.

The level of automation in SMT PCB assembly, from screen printing to reflow, is extremely high. The insertion of through-hole components in radial or axial strips has also long been automated. By contrast, the assembly of components such as connectors, transformers, relays or capacitors, which are too large or too heavy, or which are not compatible with reflow, has evolved relatively little and remains largely the preserve of costly manual operations.

SmartFAB is a game-changer, offering consistent precision at lower cost: many of these manual assembly operations can now be carried out by a SmartFAB machine. Parts up to 55mm high, weighing up to 200g and featuring complex shapes can be processed. These parts can be fed in trays, radial strips, axial strips, plastic strips, or even in bulk under certain conditions. The machine's conveyor can transfer boards or carriers weighing up to 1.5 kg as standard, but can optionally accept parts weighing up to 6 kg. In the case of through-hole components, these can be left as they are after insertion, but can also be clinched or soldered, depending on whether the SmartFAB is equipped with a clinching unit or a selective wave (a fluxing unit is then required upstream of the SmartFAB).In this respect, the SmartFAB is unique on the market.

The second, so-called "processing" head can, for example, be a solder cream or adhesive application head, or a screwdriver. The SmartFAB platform is also open to less conventional applications, enabling the use of stepped or even complex three-dimensional supports for assembly operations involving electronic components, or even mechanical elements.

Particularly suited to environments with high labor costs, such as in Western Europe, the SmartFAB guarantees a rapid return on investment.
