92M-3E Eco Clamp Electric Clamping Unit

92M-3E

Presentation

DESTACO, a global leader in automation and workholding, introduces the Eco Clamp 92M-3E: the first 24 VDC electric clamping unit in its class able to replace a size 63 pneumatic clamp 1:1, with true Plug & Play integration and no dedicated controller. A new addition to the smart electric product range, distributed in France by Fenwick Industrie.

Why electric clamping?

At Fenwick Industrie, we know there is no one-size-fits-all clamping technology. DESTACO pneumatic clamping remains the reliability benchmark across the vast majority of industrial applications: simple cycles, available compressed air, controlled force, attractive investment cost. That is why it is fitted on millions of stations worldwide.

Some applications, however, fall outside that scope: sites with no compressed air network, mobile stations, tight energy constraints, the need for built-in position feedback, environments that demand quiet or clean operation, and lines where every kWh counts in the energy audit. For those cases, DESTACO extends its range with the Eco Clamp 92M-3E, designed to open up applications pneumatics cannot serve.

What sets the 92M-3E apart from other electric clamps

1. Simplified Plug & Play integration. No drive, no fieldbus, no dedicated controller. The 92M-3E runs on two 24V PNP digital inputs (CLOSE / OPEN). It works equally well with an existing PLC or with a simple 24V switch on a manual station or prototyping bench. Position feedback is built in, with front-panel LED indication.

2. Daisy chain wiring. An output power connector lets you chain directly to the next unit. Up to 4 clamps share a single 24 VDC supply, cutting field wiring substantially compared with individual power distribution.

3. True 1:1 pneumatic replacement. With the 8U*404E-15-144 arm (144 mm length, 15 mm offset), the 92M-3E matches the exact mechanical footprint of a DESTACO size 63 pneumatic clamp. No fixture rework, no part modification: a decisive advantage for targeted conversion of a few stations on an existing line.

Concrete benefits: reliability and savings

  • Sites without compressed air: immediate savings on an entire pneumatic network (compressor, distribution, filtration, maintenance).
  • Energy-optimised lines: up to 93% energy savings per cycle versus an equivalent pneumatic unit (0.00003 kWh per cycle, i.e. approximately 7.9 kWh per year per unit at 1,000 cycles/day, 300 days/year).
  • Stations requiring traceability: built-in position feedback, diagnostic LED, direct feedback to the PLC.
  • Sensitive environments: no air exhaust, quiet operation, no condensate.

When to choose pneumatic, when to choose electric

Typically pneumatic: existing line with an air network, simple open/close cycle, force above 400 Nm, tight capital budget, many identical clamping points.

Typically electric: no air network on site, need for position feedback, energy or noise constraints, mobile or R&D station, targeted conversion of a few critical stations, clean environment.

Our technical team qualifies your application and points you to the most relevant solution, DESTACO pneumatic or DESTACO electric.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 92M-3E replace DESTACO pneumatic clamps? It complements the pneumatic range for specific applications: sites without an air network, energy constraints, the need for built-in position feedback. DESTACO pneumatic clamping remains the reference solution on most industrial stations. Fenwick Industrie advises on the technology best suited to each application.

Do I need a specific controller to run the 92M-3E? No. It is driven by two 24V PNP digital inputs and works with any PLC offering digital I/O, or even a simple 24V switch on a manual station. No drive, no fieldbus, no dedicated software.

Can several units be wired together? Yes. Each 92M-3E has a daisy chain connector allowing up to 4 units to be chained on a single 24 VDC supply, which greatly simplifies field wiring.

Is the 92M-3E compatible with existing arms? It uses the 8U404 arm family (centred U, right U, left U, steel H). The 8U404E-15-144 arm allows a 1:1 replacement of a DESTACO size 63 pneumatic unit with no fixture rework.

What energy savings can be expected? Up to 93% per cycle compared with a pneumatic clamp of the same size. Typical annual consumption is around 7.9 kWh per unit (1,000 cycles/day, 300 days/year). Actual savings depend on cycle rate, number of clamping points and the condition of the existing pneumatic network.
